This session will explore how representation shapes the images we make, the stories we choose to tell, and the ways our work moves across local and international spaces. It’s open to anyone interested in photography, culture, and the growing African creative economy.

The session will be led by Joel Lukhovi and brought to you by Nairobi Beyond and Picha Museum of African Photography.

Here is Joel’s Bio:
Joel Lukhovi is a visual artist and curator based in Nairobi known for his impactful presence in the photography space. He is a fellow of the Sasa Nairobi Artist Program by Goethe Institut and a global recipient of the prestigious Intercultural Encounters award from the Austrian government. With exhibitions like "Frontiers of the Present" at Circle Art Gallery, "Image & Exploration" and "Now You See" at the Goethe Institut and
"Kikulacho" at the Nairobi National Museum, Joel has built a solid reputation in the photography scene. His work spans solo and group exhibitions, artist talks, publications and residencies across Kenya, sub-Sahara Africa and Europe.
He is a contributing cultural delegate of the 2025/2026 Liverpool Biennial Curators Connect Program by British Council that connects curators from the global south region.
