We'd be Empowered If:
Do you have an impactful photo story? Showcase your work with us! (Open Call For African Women Photographers)
Unpublished Africa invites African women photographers to submit their work for our upcoming 2025 Women’s Month exhibition
We are seeking powerful images that show stories of empowered women and effectively document social issues, celebrate cultural diversity, and inspire positive change. The work submitted should tell compelling stories about women around you, raise awareness, and provoke thought.
We encourage submissions that explore the following themes:
Economic Empowerment: Capturing stories of women entrepreneurs and how they contribute to economic development.
Women and Climate: How women are empowered to respond to climate change around them or how they are responding to it.
Cultural Heritage: Preserving and celebrating diverse ways in which women have empowered younger generations and paved a way for others.
Human Stories: Portraying the lives of individuals and communities.
Submission Guidelines:
Image Quantity: Submit a selection of 3-5 images. (These can be a series)
Caption: Provide a brief caption for each image, explaining the context and significance.
Artist Statement: A concise statement about your photographic practice and the inspiration behind the work submitted.
Headshot: Include a headshot in your submission.
I’d be Empowered if: Tell us what you think would empower you as an African woman photographer using the phrase “I’d be empowered if… or “I’d feel Empowered If” to begin your sentence.
Deadline: 25 February 2025
Selected photographers will have the opportunity to exhibit their work.
